This project's purpose is to develop an outreach and engagement program for education on coastal hazards specific to the Western Upper Peninsula (WUP) and to communicate coastal hazards more effectively with place-based resources. The culmination of these objectives produced a StoryMap which incorporates media, stories, maps, and other resources into one interactive platform to educate residents about coastal hazards.
Other aspects of the project include:
Local workshops - engage community and educators in conversation, find information gaps, share local coastline knowledge around hazards, safety, and mitigation
Create engaging installations/signage to communicate hazards in high traffic areas
Compile and update existing coastal hazards info into one resource
Work with LSSI’s Professional Learning Community so teachers can bring this work into classrooms and motivate students to lead coastal stewardship projects
